Founded in 2000 the Orchestra UniMi has become – under its Music Director Alessandro Crudele – one of the leading youth orchestras in Italy, representing a new venture in the Italian music scene.
The Orchestra UniMi is one of Milan’s leading orchestras. Under the directorship of Alessandro Crudele the orchestra has forged new paths within the Italian music scene, working with internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists. And, with performances in the prestigious concert halls of the Tonhalle Zurich and the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Orchestra UniMi has found success among both its audience and critics alike helping it to become one of Italy’s finest contemporary orchestras.
As a companion to the orchestra’s output, the website documented the orchestra through photography, biographical information, current orchestra members and vacancies, as well as providing contact information, latest news and information, plus concert calendars and archives of historic concerts. Whilst most of the information was online in various forms, the project goals were to align and consolidate all of these elements into a centralised resource that would have little to no complications for continued management. Furthermore, the orchestra expressed a desire to simplify the process of managing this content in multiple languages. In fact, their existing content had a number of discrepancies between content revisions due to the complexity of the existing multilingual setup.
In addition to a streamlined content management system, a new, elegant, and mobile-ready aesthetic was developed to match the professionalism and acclaim of the orchestra. The new aesthetic serves multiple purposes: to refresh the look of the website, unify the presentation of content and also make the content much more accessible. Deployed on a customised, lightweight build of WordPress, the new Orchestra UniMi website features sleek and engaging visuals that help promote content, improve navigational efficiency and user engagement, and ultimately capture the essence of The Orchestra UniMi.
As a part of the University of Milan the visual specification for the orchestra's website needed to include references to details and small embellishments to the University website and branding.
